Tech­no­logy advances at a rate of speed that often chal­lenges even the most computer-​​savvy writer. Because the major switch to writ­ing on a per­sonal com­puter instead of the tra­di­tional type­writer occurred within the last dec­ade or two, many users still revert to tech­niques in spa­cing, punc­tu­ation and format­ting that were enforced in typ­ing class, but are obsol­ete when using a com­puter to pre­pare documents.
